Material ID Passes in Production
Key Features
In this short tutorial you learn how to create and render out a separate material ID pass using pure blocks of color to cut bits of a render out which allows for an extremely high level of control in post applications and eliminates the need to go back to re-render in Maya.

Working with the individual RGB channels you can create an ID pass to go alongside your beauty pass and use adjustment levels in a program like Photoshop to completely redo a render and replace the color which gives you full flexibility when presenting your work to clients. You'll also get a good idea of how the RGB scale works in CG which is important when working with lights and materials.

This tutorial was created for Simply Maya by Alan Woods who currently works at Framestore and has contributed to some major productions such as X-Men, The Chronicles of Narnia & Avatar.
